Roosevelt High School
Rough Rider E-Bulletin
September 2022
Aloha Roosevelt `Ohana,
We successfully held our first Welcome Back Assembly in three years at our stadium on August 16th. It was awesome seeing the entire student body in the bleachers as it exemplified a collective sense of Rough Rider pride!
We are nearing the halfway point of the first quarter. Extra academic support is available to your child during Rider Time or daily from the YMCA Afterschool Program in Room A115. Please encourage your child to take advantage of those opportunities to finish the first quarter strong.
I will be sharing a monthly E-Bulletin to provide you with information and updates of various events or topics. If you have any questions, please call me at (808)307-0500 or email me at [email protected] Mahalo for your support and cooperation as we welcomed back our students this past month!
Sincerely,
Sean Wong, Principal

Virtual Open House Launch
Here’s a great opportunity to get to know the faculty and staff of Roosevelt High School by visiting our Virtual Open House. We would appreciate it if you could complete a brief Google Form to give us data on the number of people who “visited” our open house. Please feel free to provide us with any feedback you may have.
Federal Impact Aid Survey
Federal Survey cards will be distributed to your child on September 8. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey. Federal Impact Aid helps offset costs for school materials and resources, substitute teachers, student transportation, and other services at schools statewide. All students and schools benefit from Impact Aid. Students can drop off completed survey cards at the Main Office.
Social Emotional Learning: Panorama Survey
It is our goal at Roosevelt High School to ensure that every student is safe and supported as they transition back to school. We value the input of our students as they are important partners in the work to improve the overall school experience and support their needs.
In order to learn more about student experiences, we will be asking for your child’s feedback via an online Panorama survey at three points this school year: fall, winter, and spring. The survey shouldn’t take more than 20-30 minutes to complete. The first survey will be done during the week of September 6-9.
We are asking that all of our students participate in the surveys, as their feedback will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how to improve and adapt our school to their needs. The survey content will ask students to self reflect on their own social emotional learning skills, like self-management and self-efficacy. Please notify us if you would like your child to opt out of taking the surveys by sending an email with your student's name and grade to our Panorama Survey Coordinator, [email protected]
TRUF and Students Losing Access to Google Account
Currently, there are over 200 students who have not submitted a Technology Responsible Use Form (TRUF). Any student who does not submit a TRUF by September 1, 2022 will have his/her Google account disabled. Click here to complete the form. Submit hard copy forms to the Main Office.
Student Drop off and Pick-up
For the safety of our students, please drop off and pick up your student on Nehoa Street. Please follow all traffic safety rules when dropping off your child. There have been many near misses for accidents on both Mott-Smith and Nehoa Street. Please drive with patience and Aloha!
Unpaid Meal Charge Policy
Beginning August 31, 2022, students will not be able to purchase meals until their negative balance is less than 7 days of charges. Listed below are the total allowable chargeable amounts based on eligibility:
- Reduced price student charge meal limit is $4.90
- Full Paid students meal charge limit is $26.95
Meal deposits can be made in the Main Office. Cash only. Deposits can also be made online at EZSchoolPay.com
Rough Rider Athletics
Each year, we offer more than 50 JV and Varsity sports teams. We are currently in our Fall Sports season. Please visit our RHS Athletics Homepage for more information on guidelines for participation, schedules, and contact information.
Attendance Office
In order to keep our school safe, please keep your child home if he/she tests positive for COVID or has any COVID-19 symptoms. If a student tests positive for Covid-19, the Department of Health recommends a 5-day isolation quarantine from the onset of symptoms. Notify our Attendance Office by calling 307-0539 or emailing [email protected] Thank you for your cooperation and support.
PSAT
We will be offering the PSAT on campus on Saturday, October 15, 2022 for students in grades 10 and 11. It’s a good opportunity to practice for the SAT or try for the National Merit Scholarship. The cost will be $18 per student with waivers available for 11th graders who are eligible for free/reduced lunch. More information and registration forms will be coming soon from Ms. Jacee Yoshimura.
New Rough Rider Gymnasium
A big “Mahalo!” to RHS alumnus, Senator Brian Taniguchi, for helping to secure funding for our brand new gymnasium. Construction is projected to begin in Summer of 2023 with a completion date of June 2025. The new gymnasium will seat 1,500 people and include a weight room, multi-purpose classroom, and a Judo/Wrestling room on the second floor. We will also gain 49 parking stalls on our campus from the new construction.
Class of 2023 Graduation
We are optimistic that we will be able to have an in-person graduation ceremony like we did for the Class of 2022. Currently, we are awaiting confirmation from UH Manoa to have our ceremony at the Stan Sheriff Center. Our preferred dates we proposed are: 1) Friday, May 19, 2023, 2) Saturday, May 20, 2023 and 3) Thursday, May 18, 2023. We will share more information as it becomes available.
Also, a mandatory Parent/Guardian Graduation Meeting will be held to share information about the ceremony and requirements. Our Graduation Coordinator, Ms. Doreen Dudoit, will be sharing more information in the coming weeks.
Library Open
Welcome to Ms. Richelle Peterson, our new Library Assistant. The library will be open daily for students who are looking for a book/resource to read or a quiet environment to study.
- 7:15am - 7:55am
- During Lunch (No food allowed in the library)
- After school until 3:15pm
Unclaimed OIA Student Activity Pass
