Girls Basketball:
Anyone interested in participating in Girls Jv / Varsity basketball should attend an informational meeting on Friday, 5/24, 2:30pm in the PE classroom at the field.
Girls Volleyball:
There will be an informational meeting on Friday, 5/24, 3pm in the Senior Patio for anyone interested in participating in Girls Volleyball.
Baseball:
Our baseball team opens up with St. Louis in their opening State tournament game on Tuesday, 5/14.  Game time is 7pm at Les Murakami stadium.
State Track meet:
Congratulations to Eva Kulihaapai for placing 3rd in the Girls Discus event and Reece Poscablo for placing 4th in the 110 High Hurdles and 5th in the 300 low hurdles.
Judo:
Our Judo team just completed the State Judo Championships over the weekend at the Stan Sheriff Arena.  Winning the State Championship was Ayla Jackson.   
Placing in their respective divisions: 
Boys:  Aaron Look, 5th place. Jake Kuwabara, 3rd place.  Radsen Castillano, 5th place.
Casey Iwata, 4th place.  Matt Yadao, 3rd place.  Aaron Johnson, 4th place.
Girls:  Yalexia Lemos Rodriguez, 5th place.  Journey heffernana-Kini, 6th place
 
Baseball:
Our baseball lost to Moanalua on Saturday, 5 - 3 to finish the OIA playoffs in 4th place.  They have qualified for the HHSAA State Tournament that will begin on May 13.
Tennis:
Our tennis team has qualified a few players for the OIA Championships that will start on Friday. 4/26/24.  Kawehi Woo will be playing in the girls singles tournament and Thanin Thanwisai will be playing in the boys singles tournament.  Angus Huang and Jia Wei Chen will be playing in the doubles tournament.  
Baseball:
Our baseball team defeated Campbell in the OIA quarterfinal game yesterday, 8 - 2.  We advanced to today's semifinal game against Aiea.  They'll be playing at Les Murakami stadium at 4pm.  Please see the entrance guidelines.  Guidelines are posted on the Athletic Home page.
Softball:
Our softball team lost to Kapolei yesterday 13 - 3 ending our softball season.  The score was not indicative of the competitiveness of the game.  It was a tight game up until the last inning. 
Boys Volleyball:
Our boys volleyball team advanced to the quarterfinals of the OIA tournament with a sweep of Radford.  26-24, 25-14, 25-22.  They'll be playing Campbell today.  Game time is scheduled for 5:30pm and will be played at Moanalua HS.
Judo:
The OIA Judo championships were held over this weekend at Leilehua HS.  Congratulations to Jake Kuwabara for placing first in his weight class!  Congratulations to our Judo team members that placed in their weight classes:

Boys JV Volleyball:
Congratulations to our Boys JV Volleyball team for winning the OIA Championship!  Our boys defeated Moanalua in straight sets to claim the title.  
Water Polo:
Our Water Polo team finished their regular season in three way tie for first place.  Unfortunately due to the coin toss, we were designated as the third seed for the playoffs.  Playoffs starts on Wednesday at VMAC.  Our ladies will open up the playoffs against Kalaheo.  Game time is set for 7:10pm.
Softball:
Our softball team will begin their playoffs on Wednesday at Kapolei at 3pm.  If RHS wins, we will play Kalani on Thursday at Kilauea field at 3pm.
Baseball:
Our baseball team defeated Moanalua on Saturday to finish the regular season in second place.  They will start their playoff run on Wednesday against the winner of the Campbell / Castle game.  Game time for Wednesday is set for 3pm.
Tennis:
Kawehi Woo be playing in the girls singles quarterfinal match today at 9:30am.  If she wins, she'll move to the semifinal at 12:15pm.  On the boys side, Thanin Thanwisai will be playing in the boys singles quarterfinal at 10:45am.  If he wins, he'll play in the semifinal at 1:30pm.
Angus Huang and Jiawei Chen will be playing in the boys doubles quarterfinal.  If they win, they'll move on to the semifinals at 1:30pm.  All matches are being played at Corp tennis courts.
Boys JV Volleyball:
Our boys defeated Radford last night in the boys semifinal match in three sets, 25-19, 22-25, 15-12.  They will be playing Moanalua for the OIA DIJV Championship tonight at Aiea HS.  Game will start 15min after the completion of the DII championship game.
 
Softball:
Our girls softball team finished their regular season by defeating Kaimuki 13 - 3 and Kahuku 14 - 0.  Our ladies finished in 5th place in the Eastern Division.  Playoffs will start on April 24.  Brackets will be posted as soon as it's released.  
Baseball:
Our baseball team defeated Kaiser in 8 - 7 in 10 innings on Saturday.  We currently sit in 2nd place with two more regular season games to go.
Games at Stevenson on Saturday, 4/6/2-24
Just a heads up for anyone planning on attending our baseball, softball or tennis match at Stevenson on Saturday 4/6/24. Due to having three games starting about the same time at Stevenson, parking will be tight. I will be opening the gates at the RHS field if overflow parking is needed.  Parking on Auwaiolimu St is also available.  
Judo:
Our boys and girls Judo teams both finished in second place.  They will be competing in the OIA team championships at Moanalua on Saturday, 2/6/24.  Opening matches will start at 10:30am.
Boys Volleyball:
Our boys volleyball team pulled out a 5 set win over Kahuku on Tuesday night.  Currently our boys are tied with Castle for second place with a 6 - 1 record.
Baseball:
Our baseball team pulled out an exciting game against Castle yesterday.  Roosevelt won 2 - 1.  RHS scored in the bottom of the eighth to get the win. 
Water Polo:
Our water polo team defeated Kahuku this past Saturday 13 - 8 dropping Kahuku out of first place.  Currently our girls are 6 - 0 and tied with Kaiser for first place.  The showdown with Kaiser will be held on April 6, 11;05 am at VMAC.
Water Polo:
Our girls water polo team is off to a great start.  On Sat. our girls defeated Moanalua 10 - 0.  Our girls are currently undefeated, ( 4- 0 ) and tied with Kahuku and Kaiser for first place.  Next game will be on Sat. 3/30 against Kahuku.  Game time is scheduled for 10am at VMAC.
Softball:
Our softball team defeated Kahuku last Wed. 13 - 3 but lost to Kalani 22 - 2 on Sat.  Our record is currently stands at 2 - 5 on the year.  Next game is on Thursday at Kaiser, 3pm
Baseball:
Roosevelt defeated Kaiser 13 - 8 last Wed but lost to Kailua on Saturday, 6 - 0.  Record stands at 3 - 2 on the season.
Softball:
Our softball team lost to Moanalua 14 - 0 on Saturday dropping our record to 0 - 4.  Up next for our softball team is Kaimuki.  Game time is 3pm and the game will be played at Kaimuki on Tuesday 3/12.
Baseball:
Our baseball team evened their record to 1 - 1 for the season.  We defeated Castle 8 - 3 to even up our record.

Congratulations to Clarissa Chun!

Chun is state of Iowa’s Woman of Year

 

Clarissa Chun, a Roosevelt graduate, Olympic medalist and current Iowa women’s wrestling coach, was named USA Today Woman of the Year for the state of Iowa.

The award is presented annually to 12 national recipients and one honoree per state who “use their voices and determination to push for change and equality, and even joy.”

Chun, 42, won a bronze medal in the 105.8-pound division at the 2012 London Olympics, becoming the first female wrestler from Hawaii to win a medal at the Olympics. She finished fifth at the 2008 Beijing Games.

In November 2021, Chun was announced as the first head coach of the Iowa women’s wrestling team.

Softball:
Our girls softball team lost to Castle yesterday, 11 - 1.  Next game will be on Saturday, 3/9 against Moanalua, 3pm at Stevenson.
Water Polo:
Our Water Polo team opened up their regular season by defeating Mililani by a score of 15 - 3.  Jayzlyn Tomisa scored 5 goals and Kimberly Cassens added 4 goals to lead RHS in their opening season win.
Softball:
Our girls varsity softball team dropped their first two games of the season losing to Kalani 13 - 3 and to Kaiser 13 - 8.  Next game is on Tuesday at Castle starting at 3pm.
Wreslting Team:
Our wrestlers will be competing in the OIA championships this coming Friday and Saturday at Leilehua HS.  Due to school being in session on Friday, spectators will not be allowed on campus until the afternoon rounds.  There will also be a $10 parking charge to park on campus.
Girls / Boys Basketball:
Our girls and boys basketball teams were defeated in their first round playoff games.  Our girls lost to Pearl City and our boys lost to Nanakuli.  Both games were well played but unfortunately we came up short.  
Wrestling: Eastern Division Championships
Our wrestlers competed in the varsity Eastern Division Championships over the weekend. 
 
In the girls division, congragulations to Alu Hyodo for winning her weight division.  Ayla Jackson placed 2nd and Yalexia Lemos Rodriguez finished in 3rd place in their weight divisions.  
 
In the boys division, Cole Rodriguez placed 2nd, Kei Andrian, 2nd, Radsen Castillano-Aioletuna, 2nd, Shaynen Cabiles, 3rd, Draeden Balansag, 3rd, Ula Kekauoha 3rd and Michael Halsey finished in 4th place.
 
It was a good showing by our Rough Rider wrestlers!
Girls Soccer:
Our varsity girls team ended the regular season last night with a win over Kaimuki, 7 - 0.  Our girls finished the regular season in 6th and have qualified for the OIA playoffs.  Playoffs starts on Monday, Jan. 15.  RHS will play at Waipahu to open up the playoffs.  Game time starts at 7pm.
Girls Basketball:
Our girls varsity basketball team lost a close game to Kailua last night, 50 - 40.  Our lady Rough Riders currently sit in 4th place with 3 games left in the regular season.
Soccer:
Our girls varsity soccer team is currently 2 - 2.  Our girls defeated Kailua 1 - 0 on Saturday to even their record.  Our boys varsity soccer team is currently 0 - 1 - 2.  They opened up the season with two ties against Kalaheo and Kahuku but lost their last game against Kailua 4 -1.
Girls Basketball:
Our girls varsity basketball team defeated Farrington last night 37 - 34 to even their record to 1 -1 on the season.  Our girls dropped their first game against Moanalua 42 - 24.
Football:
Our football team finished the season in the top four in the State of the DII division.  RHS lost in the State semi-finals to Waimea 13 - 10.  Waimea ended up winning the DII State Championship.
Soccer:
Our Girls and Boys soccer season opened up last night.  Our girls teams lost to Kalaheo.  Jv team lost 10 - 1 and our varsity team lost 3 -1.  Our boys team Jv defeated Kalaheo 2 - 0, while our varsity team ended up in a tie, 1-1.
Football:
Our football team defeated Kamehameha-Hawaii 19 - 14 in the opening round of the HHSAA Division II Championships.  They will now take on top seeded Waimea at Hanapepe stadium on Kauai on Sat in one of the semifinal games.  
Girls Volleyball:
Congratulations to our Girls Varsity Volleyball for finishing in the top 8 in the recent HHSAA tournament.  Our girls defeated Kamehameha-Maui in the first round.  They lost their next 2 games to Kamehameha-Hawaii in the quarterfinals and fell to Mililani in the consolation bracket.  
Football:
Congratulations to our football team for defeating Kaimuki HS 34 - 22 to win the OIA Division II Championship.

If you are planning on going to the OIA DII football championship this Friday at Mililani, just a heads up that they will be charging $5 for parking in their gym and upper parking lots.
Handicap parking will be located on the Meheula gate entry side near their tennis courts.
Roosevelt will be playing Kaimuki for the championship.  Kickoff will be a 5pm.
Girls Volleyball:
Our girls varsity volleyball team finished the OIA tournament in 4th place.  We lost a 5 set match to Kapolei last night in the 3rd place game.  Our girls qualified for the HHSAA tournament which starts on Monday, 11/6.  Go to sportshigh.com for more information and to view the brackets once all the leagues are completed with their league championships. 
Seniors:
The Class of 2024 Hawaii State NLI Signing Day will be on Wednesday, November 8, 2023. The event is open to all high school seniors class of 2024 that will be committing to play collegiate sports, except football (signing day will be December and February 2024 for football). 
 
The event will be held at the Sheraton Princess Ka'iulani, Waikiki.

Girls Volleyball:
Our girls varsity team advanced in the OIA playoffs last night.  They beat the West # 3 seed, Nanakuli in four sets. 
25 - 27, 25 - 22, 25 - 16, 25 - 22.  Tonight our girls will play Kalaheo at 5:30pm.  Game will be played at Mililani HS.  
Bowling:
Our bowling team will be participating in the OIA Championships at Schofield Bowling Center on Wed. 10/25.  The championships should start around 9am
JV Cross Country:
Our JV Cross Country teams had a good showing at the OIA JV Championships this past Saturday.  The meet was held at Oahu Central Reginal Park.  Our girls team finished in sixth place.  Our boys team finished in ninth place.  There were 72 runners in the girls division and 96 in the boys division.
 
Top finishers for RHS:
Girls Division:  Devon Hall, 2nd place.  Kaitlyn Inouye, 26th place.
Boys Division:  Francis De Mesa, 22nd place.  Kaden Aimoto, 28th place.
Girls Varsity Volleyball:
Our girls varsity volleyball team finished in sixth place in the Eastern Division and will begin the OIA playoffs on Wednesday, 10/25 against Nanakuli at Nanakuli.  Game time should be around 7pm.  Our game will start 20 minutes after the completion of the first game.
 
Football:
Our varsity football team finished the Division II regular season tied for second place.  Due to the tie breaking procedure, RHS ended up with the third seed for the playoffs.  The playoffs begin on Friday, 10/27.  RHS will be taking on Kaiser at Kaiser.  Game time will be at 7:30pm.
 
JV Football:
Our JV football team will be playing Pearl City HS for the OIA JV Division II Championship on Saturday, 10/28, 4pm at Pearl City HS.
Soft Tennis:
Congratulations to our Boys Soft Tennis team for winning the OIA Team Championships!
JV Softball:
Our games against Kaimuki and Kahuku has been forfeited by the two schools.  
Football:
Our varsity football team notched their second win of the season last Thursday.  RHS defeated Kalaheo 24 - 17 in a thrilling come from behind victory.  Next game will be our Homecoming game on Friday, 9/29.  Our Jv will be playing Kailua and our varsity will be playing Kalani.
Girls Volleyball:
Our girls varsity volleyball team defeated Farrington in 4 sets to get our first win of the 2023 season.  Next game will be on Tuesday, 9/26 at McKinley.  
Girls Volleyball:
Our girls volleyball teams lost in straight sets to Moanalua last night:
JV lost 21-2, 21-6.  Varsity II lost 21-14, 21-16.  Varsity lost 25-12, 25-13, 25-22.
Girls Volleyball:
Our volleyball teams opened the season with a loss to Kalaheo last Thursday.  Our JV and Vars II teams lost in straight sets. 2-0.  Our Varsity team lost in 4 sets. 3-1
 
 
Football:
Our football game on Friday, 9/22 against Kalaheo has been moved to Thursday, 9/21 due to a shortage of officials.  There will only be the varsity game.  Game time is set for 6pm. 
Soft Tennis:
Our boys Soft Tennis team sits in first place with a 9-0 record going into the fourth week of the season.  Our girls team is in second place with a 5-4 record.
Football:
Our football team fell to Kaiser over the weekend in a close battle.  Kaiser scored in the last 2 minutes of the game to defeat the Rough Riders, 27 - 24.  Next game will be on Thursday, 9/21 against Kalaheo.  Kickoff will be at 6pm.
Girls JV / Varsity Soccer:
Sign ups for our Girls JV / Var soccer team will be held on Monday, 9/18, 3pm at the football field concession stand.  
Football:
Our football team is currently 1 - 1 this season.  We opened with a win over Kaimuki but lost the following week to Pearl City.  Next game is this Saturday at Kaiser, 6pm. 
Girls Volleyball:
Our girls volleyball team will open up their season next Thursday, 9/14 at Kalaheo HS.  JV starts at 5pm, Varstiy II at 6pm and the Varsity at 7pm.  

Alumni News:  Congratulations to Clarissa Chun, Class of 1999

Clarissa Chun will be officially inducted to the 2023 class of the NFHS National High School Hall of Fame on July 1 at the NFHS Summer Meeting in Seattle, Washington. You can watch the press conference and the induction ceremony streaming live on the NFHS Network.

 

The Hall of Fame press conference with all 12 inductees will take place at 9:00 a.m. HST. The Hall of Fame banquet and induction ceremony will begin at 3:00 p.m. HST with the introduction of the honorees, followed by a brief pause in the festivities for the dinner, then continue with the presentation of the inductee videos, awards and medallions. Kapaa High School principal, Tommy Cox, who also serves as HHSAA Executive Board president and an at-large member of the NFHS Board of Directors, will present Clarissa with the medallion.  

 

Chun, a 1999 Roosevelt High School alumnus, became the first high school wrestler in the country to win an official state high school girls wrestling title when she won the 98-pound weight class the first year the girls division was created. Chun went on to win a second state championship in 1999 to become one of the first two-time girls gold medalists in the state.

 

In the last two decades since then, she has been a trailblazer in the growth of women’s wrestling across the country.  Chun has garnered over 90 accolades and titles before becoming the head coach at the University of Iowa, the first NCAA Division I program from a Power Five conference to sponsor women's wrestling.

 

In October 2021, Chun became one of four women to be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame with Distinguished Member status for the Modern Era. Only 204 individuals have been bestowed with Distinguished Member status since the Hall of Fame began over 40 years ago in 1976.

 

Chun was a five-sport athlete during her interscholastic athletic career, qualifying for HHSAA state tournaments in wrestling, swimming and bowling. She was a league champion in judo and also participated in girls water polo.

 

Chun is just the third person from Hawaii to be inducted to the National High School Hall of Fame. The other Hawaii inductees include three-sport standout athlete Charlie Wedemeyer (Punahou ‘65) and the winningest swimming coach in state history in Jeff Meister (Punahou, 1988-present).

Boys Volleyball:
Roosevelt will be taking on Mililani in the Boys semifinals tonight at Radford.  Game time will be approximately 7:15pm. 
Girls Water Polo:
Our girls finished in 3rd place at the OIA championships.  Roosevelt defeated Kapolei 8-6 in overtime in the 3rd place game.
Track Meets:
All divisional and league championship track meets will have an admission charge.  In accordance to league policy, no food, drinks or coolers will be allowed into the stadiums.  The OIA also has a no reentry rule.  Once a spectator leaves the venue, a new ticket is required to enter.  Tickets can be purchased at Ticket Spicket.
Softball Playoffs:
Our softball season ended yesterday with a 10 - 0 loss to Leilehua in the first round of the OIA playoffs.  Our girls played hard until the final out.  It was a two run game until the fourth inning when Leilehua scored 5 runs to give them a comfortable lead.  Roosevelt had runners in scoring position in the second and third innings but couldn't get them across the plate. 
Boys Volleyball Playoffs:
Our boys volleyball ended the regular season in second place in the Eastern Division.  They start their playoffs on Thursday, 4/20, 5:30pm at Mililani gym.  Our boys will be playing the winner of the Waipahu vs. Kalani game.  
Boys Soccer:
Congratulations to our Boys Varsity Soccer team for winning the OIA DII Soccer Championship!  Our boys defeated McKinley 2 - 0 in the Championship game.
Wrestling:
The HHSAA State Championships was held over the weekend at the BYUH campus.  Winning the State Championship in her weight division was Caelin Balansag.  Also placing was Alu Hyodo.  Alu placed third in her weight division.  All of our wrestlers who competed gave it their best against the top wrestlers in the State.  Congratulations to all of our wrestlers that made it into the tournament!
Wrestling:
Congratulations to our wrestlers who placed in the OIA tournament:  1st place:  Caelin Balansag.  3rd place:  Alu Hyodo. 5th place:  Ayla Jackson.  7th Place:  Cole Rodriguez. 8th place:  Hugh Shimonishi.  All have qualified for the State tournament that starts on Friday at BYUH campus.  
OIA Swimming Championships:
Congratulations to our Girls swimming team for placing 3rd in the OIA championships that was held at the VMAC pool.  Our boys also placed in the top 10.  Our boys finished 7th in the OIA.
Individual medalists were:  Allen Rauschenburg, 2nd, Frey Hebert, 3rd, in the boys 200 IM.  Jayzlyn Tomisa, 6th in the girls 50 freestyle.  Joyce Wong, 6th in the girls 100 butterfly.  Malia Lauret, 4th in the girls 100 freestyle.  Allen Rauschenburg 6th in the boys 500 freestyle.  Ziya Quinn 6th in the boys 100 breaststroke.  Jayzlyn Tomisa, 2nd, Neve Dagdagan 3rd, in the girls 100 backstroke.
In the relays: Neve Dagdagan, Malia Lauret, Jayzlyn Tomisa, Joyce Wong placed 2nd in the girls 200 medley relay.  Malia Lauret, Joyce Wong, Kimberly Cassens, Madilynn Toguchi placed 2nd in the girls 200 freestyle relay. Madilynn Toguchi, Neve Dagdagan, Jayzlyn Tomisa, Kimberly Cassens placed 4th in the girls 400 freestyle relay.  Frey Hebert, Tallen Vidal, Allen Rauschenburg, Ziya Quinn placed 6th in the boys 400 freestyle relay.  They also placed 4th in the boys 200 freestyle relay.  
Boys Basketball:
Last night's postponed basketball game will be played at Kahuku tonight, 6:30pm.
Boys Soccer:
Congratulations to our Boys Varsity Soccer team for winning the OIA DII Soccer Championship!  Our boys defeated McKinley 2 - 0 in the Championship game.
Girls Basketball:
Our girls lost to Mililani 48 - 36 in the opening round of the OIA playoffs.   The loss ended our girls basketball season.  
Girls Soccer:
Our girls soccer team season ended on Monday.  Our girls were defeated by Campbell 4 -0  in the opening round of the OIA playoffs.  
Girls Basketball:
Our girls basketball ended their regular season with a 5 - 6 record.  We finished in 6th place and qualified for the playoffs.  First round of the playoffs begins on Thursday, Jan.19,2023.  We will be playing Mililani at Mililani at 6:30pm.
Girls Varsity Soccer:
Playoffs will be starting on Monday, 1/16/23.  Our girls will be playing Campbell, 5:30pm.  The game will be played at Kapolei HS as part of a playoff double header.
Girls Soccer:
With one game left in the season, our girls varsity is currently in 7th place in the Eastern Division with a 3-4-2 record.  We'll need to beat Kalani on Saturday to qualify for the DI playoffs.  Game will be played at Kalani starting at 4pm on Saturday.
 
Our girls JV team currently is in 6th place in the Eastern Division with a 1-4 record.  Unfortunately, our JV girls will not make the playoffs but they have been really competitive.  
Boys Soccer:
With a win last night over Farrington, our boys varsity soccer team clinched the Eastern Division II championship.  They have two more games to play to close out the season.  Next game is on Saturday, 1/6/23, 7pm at RHS.
 
Our JV team is 0-3-1 with two games left in the season.  
Girls Basketball:
Our girls varsity basketball team is currently in 6th place in the Eastern Division with a 5 - 3 record.  Next game is on Friday, 1/6, 6pm at RHS against Kalani.

Paddling:
There will be an informational meeting on Friday, Oct. 28, 2:15pm on the field bleachers for anyone interested in participating in JV / Varsity girls or boys paddling.  
JV baseball:
Off season voluntary conditioning has started for anyone that is interested.  They're running at the field on Tuesday's and Thursdays starting at 3;30pm and then going over to Stevenson to finish their workouts.  Must have completed athletic forms in order to participate.
Swimming:
Voluntary conditioning is still going on for anyone interested in participating in our JV / Varsity girls and boys swimming program.   For more information go to roughrider-swimwp.weebly.com for more information.  All athletic forms must be completed in order to participate.
Cross Country:
On Sat. Oct. 15, our JV girls and boys Cross Country team will be competing in the OIA JV championships.  Races begin at 2pm and will be held at Central Oahu Reginal Park.
Girls Varsity Volleyball:
Our Girls varsity volleyball team made the DI OIA playoffs.  Their opening round game will be against Kapolei on Wed. 10/12 at Kapolei.  We'll be playing the second game of the night.  First game will start at 5:30pm.  We will be playing 20 minutes after the first game is completed.
Football:
Our Varsity and JV football teams both lost close games against Farrington last Friday.  This coming Sat. Oct. 15 will be our last game for the season.  We will be playing Kailua at Kailua HS.  Game time is 4pm for the JV and the Varsity will start 25 min after the JV game is completed.
Football:
Our JV and Varsity teams lost to Waipahu this weekend.  Our JV lost 28 - 14.  Our Varsity lost 59 - 24.  Our Varsity led 24 - 22 at the half but Waipahu played a flawless second half.  
Girls Volleyball:
Our girls volleyball team defeated Castle last Wed.  Our White and JV teams won in 2 sets.  Our Varsity won in 3 sets.  Tonight our girls will be taking on Kaiser.  Game will be at RHS.  White plays at 5pm, JV at 6pm and Varsity at 7pm.
Girls Soft Tennis:
Our girls soft tennis team finished in second place in the Eastern Division with a 8 - 7 record.  They'll be playing Mililani in the OIA playoffs on Sat. 9/24/22 at McKinley HS.  Tournament starts at 9am.
Football:
Our football team lost a close game to Castle on Homecoming night,  27 -24.  Castle scored a touchdown with 2 mins. left in the 4th quarter to win the game.  
Homecoming:
Our Homecoming game is this Friday, 9/16, 7:30pm against Castle.  Come out and support the team.   Should be a good game.  
Girls Volleyball:
Our varsity girls lost in 4 sets to Kalaheo last night.  25-23, 23-25, 25-23, 25-14.  Next game is on Wed. 9/14 against Farrington.  Game will be played at RHS.
Football:
Our Jv and Varsity defeated Radford last Friday.  Our JV won 21 - 7 and our Varsity won 31 - 24.  
Football:
On Friday, 9/9/22 our football team will be playing their first regular season game at Ticky Vasconcellos Stadium.  Jv game will begin at 5pm.  The varsity will follow 25 min after the completion of the JV game.  All tickets must be purchased at Ticket Spicket.
Girls Volleyball:
Tonight our Girls Volleyball teams will be traveling to Moanalua.  Go out and support our ladies!  Game time is 5pm for our White team, 6pm for our JV and 7pm for our Varsity.
Football:
Our JV and Varsity football teams opened the season with a loss to Aiea last week.  Our varsity has a bye this week but our JV will be playing Pearl City on Friday, 5pm at RHS in a nonconference game.
Girls Volleyball:
Last night our Girls volleyball teams defeated the McKinley Tigers.  Our White division team won in 2 sets.  Our JV team won in 3 sets and our Varsity won in 3.  25-15, 25-18, 25-12.
Girls Soccer meeting:
On Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022 at 3pm, there will be an informational meeting for anyone interested in participating in girls soccer.  The meeting will be held at the concession stand at the football field.  
Air Riflery Tryouts:
Tryouts for our Air Riflery team will begin on Thurs. Aug. 11 at 2:30pm.  All those interested should meet on the bleachers next to our trainers room on that day.  Make sure to turn in your athletic forms to our trainers prior to going to your tryout.  Forms and procedures can be found in the Required Athletic form section. 
Soft Tennis Tryouts:
Tryouts for Boys and Girls Soft Tennis will begin on Wed, Aug. 3, 4:30pm at the Stevenson tennis courts.  Make sure to turn in your athletic forms to our trainers prior to going to your tryout.  Forms and procedures can be found in the Required Athletic form section.  
Bowling Tryouts:

Athletic Forms:
In order to participate in any sport, all required athletic forms must be completed and turned into our trainers. Once the forms are turned in, our trainers will give each student a clearance slip.  The student will take that clearance slip to their respective coach and then will be allowed to participate in tryouts or any offseason workouts.

Cross Country:
Tryouts for Cross Country will begin on Aug. 1 from 4:30pm - 6:30pm at the RHS track.  Practices will be held Monday - Friday.  All athletic paperwork must be completed in order to tryout.
Girls Volleyball:
Tryouts for our Girls JV / White / Varsity volleyball teams will held from Aug. 1 - 4.  Meet at the gym at 4:30pm, tryouts will begin at 5pm and finish at 7pm.
Girls Volleyball:
Summer workouts will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting on Tuesday, June 28 from 5pm - 7pm at the gym.  The workouts will include some outdoor conditioning on the track.  All athletic forms must be completed in order to participate.  Forms can be turned into Coach Jarin.  
 
Water Polo:
HHSAA State Water Polo championships start on Thursday for our girls.  We open up with Hawaii Prep at 5:45pm.  All games will be held at Kamehameha Kapalama pool.
Boys Volleyball:
Our boys traveled to the Big Island and defeated Waiakea in the first round of the HHSAA boys volleyball tournament.  It was a hard earned 5 set win.
25-18, 21-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-4.  Tournament play continues on Thursday.  We will be playing the #1 seed Punahou at 7pm at Moanalua HS gym.
OIA Judo Individual Championships:

Girls Water Polo:
Congratulations to our Girls Water Polo team for winning the OIA Championship last night.  Our girls defeated Kaiser 10 - 5 to win the championship.  The HHSAA tournament begins on May 5 and runs through May 7.  The tournament will be held on the Kamehameha Kapalama campus.
Boys Volleyball Playoffs:
Roosevelt defeated Leilehua in a thrilling 5 set match.  Scores were 28-26, 18-25, 25-17, 26-28, 21-19.  They qualified for the HHSAA tournament which runs from May 5 - 7.
Boys Volleyball:
Tonight is the start of the OIA playoffs for our Boys Volleyball team.  We will be facing Leilehua at 5:30pm.  The game will be played at Mililani HS gym.  If we win tonight, we will qualify for the HHSAA tournament which starts in May.
Water Polo:
Tonight our Water Polo team will be playing Kaiser for the OIA Championship.
Game time is 7:30pm at the VMAC pool.  
JV Boys Volleyball:
Our boys JV team finished in second place in the Eastern Division.  Unfortunately, our JV boys volleyball team lost to Kapolei in the JV OIA semifinals.  
OIA playoffs:
OIA playoffs are starting.  On Tuesday, 4/19 our Girls Water Polo team will be playing Waipahu at the VMAC pool in the first round.  Game starts at 4:40pm.  On Wednesday, 4/20 our baseball team will be playing Aiea at Aiea rec center field.  Game time is 3pm.  On Thursday, 4/21 our boys varsity volleyball team will be playing the winner of the Leilehua / Farrington game.  Game will be played at Mililani HS at 5:30pm.
Girls Varsity Soccer Playoffs:
Our girls varsity soccer team qualified for the OIA playoffs.  First game for our girls will be against Pearl City on Monday, 2/7 at 7pm.  The game will be played at Pearl City.  There will be an admission charge.  Tickets are being sold at Ticket Spicket.  Spectators must be fully vaccinated or have a negative Covid test within 48 hours of the event.  
Athletic Forms:
In order to participate in athletics, all DOE athletic forms must be completed.  Forms can be downloaded in the Required Athletic Forms section.  When the forms are completed, they can be dropped off at our Athletic Trainers room located at the field.  You will be given a clearance slip confirming your paperwork.
Track Meeting:

Winter Sports:
If you are planning on trying out for any of our Winter Sports, remember you will need to turn in all of your required Athletic forms to our trainers and get a clearance slip from them on order to tryout.  Don't wait until the tryout day to get your clearance slip.  The lines are normally long and you may end up missing your tryout.
Girls White Division Volleyball:
Congratulations to our girls volleyball team for winning the OIA Girls White Division Championship.  Our girls defeated Anuenue in straight sets.
Girls Volleyball White division:
Our Volleyball team will be playing Anuenue for the OIA White Division Championship tonight at Waialua.  Game time is set for 5:30pm.
JV Girls Volleyball:
Our girls JV volleyball season ended last night.  Roosevelt lost in the JV semis to the West top seed Leilehua in straight sets.  25-17, 25-11

Last night the regular DII season was completed.  Our JV team finished in second place.  Our Varsity White team finished in first place and our Varsity team finished in second place.  Playoffs will start on Monday, 11/22 for our JV and White teams.  Our Varsity playoffs will begin on Wed. 11/22.  Brackets are posted in the Playoff Bracket section.
JV Softball:
Our JV softball team defeated Kailua 25 - 3 last Saturday.  We lost to Kalani twice this week, 12-7, 21-11.
Paddling Meeting:
If you're interested in participating in Boys or Girls JV / Var paddling this year, Coach Kruse will be having an informational meeting on Wed, 11/10, 2:15pm on the stadium bleachers.
JV Softball:
Our JV softball team got off to a good start on Saturday by defeating Castle 7 - 5 to start off their season.
Girls Volleyball:
Our Varsity girls finished off Senior night with a 3 set victory over the McKinley Tigers.  25-11, 25-20, 26-24.  Our White and JV team also defeated McKinley in the earlier games in two sets.
Football:
Our football team defeated Kailua 38 - 7 Friday night to cap off a successful Homecoming week.

Clarification on Covid weekly testing:
I have been made aware that there is word circulating that if an athlete is not vaccinated that they can just get tested weekly and be able to participate.  As of now, that statement is false.  Only students that have an approved medical or religious exemption will be allowed to test and play.  
Fall Sports:
The DOE has informed us that all Fall sports have been postponed until September 24, 2021.  As more information is released, it will be posted in the Athletic section.Enter your text here...
Drop offs and Pick up:
A reminder that all students should be dropped off on Nehoa St near the bus stop for practices at the field and pool.  For the gym sports, drop offs and pick ups should be done on Mott Smith Dr.
Football:
Football has started their summer practices.  Practices run from Monday - Friday from 4 - 6:15pm.  Required  Athletic forms must be turned in before you can practice with the team.
Spring sports spectators:
Unfortunately, for our 2021 Spring season, we will not be allowed to have spectators at any of these events.  Please help us by communicating this to family and friends who would normally attend these athletic events.  We understand that there will be disappointment with this decision but please understand that this decision was made to help us ensure that we could have some type of competition for our Spring athletes. 
Athletic Forms:
Just a reminder that in order to participate in Athletics, a Physical, Assumption of Risk and Concussion Management form needs to be completed.  All forms can be found in the Forms and Document section.  Physicals are good for one calendar year.  If your physical is still current, please have your physician fill out the DOE Physical form.  We are not allowed to accept physicals that are not on the DOE form.
These forms must be completed before any student can tryout or do any form of conditioning with our athletic teams.
Friday night lights:
To honor our Class of 2020, Roosevelt High School will be joining several other public schools in honoring our  Class of 2020 by turning on our field lights at 8:20pm (20:20 military time) for 20 minutes and 20 seconds.  We will do this each Friday from 4/24 - 5/29. 
Wrestling:
Congratulations to Iz Gonzales and Triston Baron for finishing 6th in their weight classes at the HHSAA State Wrestling tournament.  
Boys Basketball:
Congratulations to our Boys Basketball Varsity team for finishing second in the HHSAA Tournament.  We made it to finals but lost a close game to Kohala, 51 - 48.  We had a very good season, winning the OIA DII Championship.

Our Boys basketball team will be playing in the DII OIA Championship on Wed. 2/10 at McKinley gym.  Game time is set for 5pm.  Roosevelt will be playing McKinley and the game will be televised on OC16 if you can't be at the game.
Wrestling:
 
Our wrestling team competed in the OIA Championships over the weekend.  Congratulations to Max Higa for winning his weight class.  Isreal Gonzalez finished in second place in a hard fought match.  Triston Baron placed 3rd.  Kai He placed 4th.  Dayven Hom and Caelin Balansag placed 7th in their weight classes.  The HHSAA tournament will be held on Feb. 21 and 22 at the NBC Arena.
Swimming:
 
Congratulations to Lauren Croll for winning girls 50 freestyle at the OIA Championships.  She also placed second in the 100 Breaststroke.  Rui Pena place 4th in the 200 freestyle and Neve Dagdagan placed 3rd in th 100 backstroke.  Our relay team also did well.  Our girls placed 3rd in the 200 freestyle relay and 4th in the 400 freestyle relay.  Our boys team placed 4th in the 200 freestyle relay and 6th in the 400 freestyle relay.  Members of our girls relay teams were Lauren Croll, Clara Lee, Hannah Gang, Emiko Tajima, Maile Shiroma, Neve Dagdagan and Margaret Lonborg.  Members of the boys team were Dillion Ishimi, Kai Iwai-King, Lawson Makaneole, Jase Ishimi, Rui Pena and Adam Taba.
JV Wrestling Championships:
Congratulations to Caelin Balansang for winning OIA Championship in her weight class.  Also, congratulations to Zeke Higa and Dayven Hom for placing second in their weight classes.
JV Cross Country:
Congratulations to our Girls JV Cross Country team for finishing in 4th place at the OIA JV Championships.  Also, congratulations to Bennett Nakamura for placing 8th out of 80 competitors in the boys division.  
Football:
Our JV and Varsity football teams will be playing for the Division II championships.  Our JV will be playing Pearl City on Friday, 7pm at RHS.  Our Varsity will be playing Kaimuki on Saturday, 2pm at Aloha Stadium.  If you can't make it to the varsity game on Saturday, it will be televised on OC16.

Golf:
Congratulations to Kolbe Irei and to Jae Eun Park for winning medals at the HHSAA State Golf Championships held at the Waikoloa Kings Course.  Kolbe placed second while Jae Eun placed eleventh.  
Water Polo and Softball:
Congratulations to our Girls Water Polo and Girls Softball teams for having an outstanding season.  Both teams finished in 5th place in their HHSAA State tournaments.  Our Water Polo team finished 3rd in the regular season and 3rd in the OIA.  Our Softball team finished 1st in the Eastern Division and 5th in the OIA.
Track and Field:
Congratulations to our 4x400 relay team ( Devin Li, Lowen Fernandez, Brett Furukawa, Kirk Calinao ) for placing 3rd in the HHSAA State Track meet.  Also qualifying for the the finals in their events were:  Lowen Fernandez, 6th, 400 meter.  Angelina Gonzalez, 7th 400 meter.  D'elle Martin, 8th, 1500 meter, 9th, 3000 meter.  Charley Lau, 18th, High Jump.  Ty Shishido, 7th High Jump.  William Liang and Noah Okami, tied 14th, Pole Vault.  Stephanie Matsuda and Taylor Umetsu, tied 10th, Pole Vault. 
Golf:
Congratulations to Kolbe Irei for placing 5th in the OIA Championships.  Also, placing were, Yoon Ho Park, 9th and Tredor Ikeda, 8th.  Tredor also recorded a hole in one on the 15th hole at the Turtle Bay Fazio Course.  In the girls division, Jae Eun Park finished in 3rd place.  All of these golfers will be participating in the HHSAA Championships at the Waikoloa Kings Course this week.

Congratulations to Carlos Argones for winning the Eastern Division Singles Championship.  He also placed third in the OIA Singles Championships.  Also, congratulations to Lexi Mitsunaga for placing 7th in the Singles Eastern Division Championships.  Also placing were Kenta Sakamoto, 7th and Krista Shoda and Man Ian Woo placed 8th in the Doubles division.

Congratulations to Lauren Croll for placing 8th in her event at the recently completed HHSAA State Swimming Championships.  At the end of our OIA season our boys team finished 5th in the OIA and our girls finished 6th in the OIA.
